Assemblies for Movement Governance

Assemblies organized to represent frontline struggles and community organizations in order to share analysis, collaborate, and develop & implement action plans to grow movement power

The Southern Movement Assembly is a regional organizing process involving over 50 organizations working across issues in the Southeast U.S.

The first Southern Movement ASsembly was held in historic Lowndes County, Alabama on the site of 1965’s Tent City in September 2012.

Throughout 2013 and 2014, organizing drives have culminated in four SMAs held in different locations in the South: Jacksonville, FL, Dothan, AL, and Atlanta, GA.

Assemblies that are organized to bring together people in a particular neighborhood, city, town, constituency or population in order to share analysis, collaborate, develop & implement action plans that grow community power.
